Decimation Plot and Timeline

It's been two years since Omen's prophecy, and nothing has gone as planned. The apocalypse came, the decimation of both humans and mutants, and what is left in it's wake is anyone's guess.
The Mansion has gone from being a school to merely a refuge for anyone who can find it. The Professor disappeared shortly after the final joint battle that both brought the Brotherhood and the X-Men together and an unofficial end to the war against the Artificial Intelligence that took over the world. Storm remains, trying to bring a small amount of stability in a world without government, without law, and without things that most people would consider basic needs: food, electricity, water. The world the students had always known is gone, along with most of the students themselves.
As of a year before, there was no more United States. Washington D.C. has become a scorched wasteland, and New York City has been abandoned. Most other countries are the same. Cut off from any means of support, people survive the best they can, and any way they can. Rumors of cults worshiping the machines and gangs intent on ruling what they refer to as a 'new country' abound. And the A.I. has not lost completely yet.
Sentient machines can still be found, and where they are remains anyone's guess.
The question is: will humans and mutants survive the war for control of a new world after the decimation?
